Faculty of Informatics and information technologies (FIIT) was founded in 2002, i.e. at the same time when the University of Novi Pazar was founded. The Faculty started to work in academic year 2002/03 with the following professional team: Jeroslav Živanjić, Velimir Sotirović, Dušan Malbaški, Dragan Ivetić, Biljana Radulović, Danimir Mandić, Ćamil Sukić, Branko Markoski, Ivana Berković, Branislav Egić, Sait Kačapor, Čedomir Čupić and Borislav Odadžić. The first Head of the Faculty was professor Velimir Sotirović, PhD (from January 2003 – December 2008).
From 2009 University of Novi Pazar, as an integrated University, realized all its study programs through six departments, where the Informatics study program was realized at the Department of Natural and Technical studies. The Head of this department was professor Ćamil Sukić, PhD (from January 2009 – September 2013).
In the following years the Faculty and later the department was widened with the engagement of guest professors from Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Montenegro (Želimir Branović, Zoran Lovreković, Danijela Milošević, Bekim Fetaji, Momčilo Vujičić, Dragan Đurčić, Leonid Stoimenov, Svetislav Radovic, Đoko Marković, Mensura Kudumović, Zvonko Sajfert, Džafer Kudumović, Dragica Jovanović, Željko Marćićević, Jezdimir Obadovic, Aleksa Macanovic, Muharem Kozić, Aleksandar Kupusinac, Emruš Azizović, Aleksandar Šebeković, Saša Arsovski, Snežana Jokić, Tatjana Atanasova Pačemska, Mersad Mujević and many more).
With the decree of the Senate of University of Novi Pazar, in June 2013 the Department of Natural and Technical Studies was renamed as the Department of Computer Studies. Classes at the study program Informatics were realized at this department. The Head of the Department of Computer studies was professor Muzafer Saračević, PhD (from September 2013 – September 2017).
From September 2017 the Head of the department has been professor Šemsudin Plojović, PhD.
Within the department works the Computer Center, which was founded in 2008 with the aim to give technical and professional support to the University’s administration, as well as to the making and maintenance of the information system, University’s web site and site for mobile devices. The Centre is in charge of computer systems administration and development/maintenance of the E-learning system. From its beginnings the Center has enhanced the implementation of new information and communication technologies. In cooperation with the department this Center has enabled students to perform practical work in the premises of the Center. The development team of the Center aims to project information systems for the University’s needs, using modern methods and software engineering techniques. The Center engages in the research activities, as well as in the information technologies from the aspect of innovation within high education. Some results of the Center have been presented in the form of authorial works at the international and domestic symposiums and conferences, and have also been published in international and domestic journals.
