Message from the Head of the Department

Dear students and esteemed colleagues,

We warmly welcome you to the Department of Arts and Philological Sciences!

Humans, whether aware of it or not, have been surrounded by various forms of art since ancient times. Art is omnipresent in the visual, auditory, and expressive realms; it reflects harmony and beauty in the synthesis of diversity into unity, which resonates as joy.

To understand and experience art, an artist must learn how to distill a special kind of truth from a multitude of impressions, thoughts, and emotions, and integrate it into their creation, materialized in the form of a painting, imaginative graphic solution, or skillfully harmonized fashion design.

Great works arise from small things, from numerous fragments connected into a whole. The art programs provide knowledge and skills, building cohesive connections between society, art, and culture. Whether we talk about visual or applied arts, the key concepts in the Department of Arts and Philological Sciences are energy, interaction, spontaneity, releasing impulses, creativity, expression, and improvisation as an enhancement.

In the field of philological sciences, our department offers four study programs: Bosnian Language and Bosniak Literature, Serbian Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, and German Language and Literature.

Upon completing one of these programs, you will be awarded the title of Bachelor of Philology or Professor of German, English, Serbian, or Bosnian language and literature (depending on the program you choose), with 240 ECTS credits, and gain the right to enroll in one-year master's studies.

All programs are designed according to the same directions found at universities with philological disciplines. The teaching staff consists of eminent experts from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as obligatory native speakers from countries where English and German are the official languages (Germany, Austria, Great Britain, USA), guaranteeing the provision of quality service that, alongside the professional approach of all university staff, ensures an environment where students gain top theoretical and practical knowledge, with the potential to specialize into highly sophisticated professionals in their respective fields.

In addition to undergraduate studies, the Department of Arts and Philological Sciences also organizes master's and doctoral programs, where students can achieve higher academic titles – Master Visual Artist, Master Professor of Language and Literature, Master Philologist, and Doctor of Arts – Visual Arts.

By decision of the Senate of the University, the Department offers professional seminars and courses in Bosnian and Serbian language and literature for educators, teachers, and professors already working in the educational process. We also collaborate with the Austrian Institute for German Language ÖSD to organize exams for acquiring German language proficiency certificates for all levels (from A1 to C2).

A degree from the University of Novi Pazar provides an excellent foundation for public engagement, a free human act, driven by will and reason, realized in a given social context.

Authenticity is a condition, construct, and outcome... authenticity is the principle on which art at the University of Novi Pazar is based.

Therefore,

Do not follow the path where it may lead you, go where there is no path, and leave your mark!
